William “Willie” Van Laar passed away peacefully on October 26, 2022 in Ripon at the age of 91. Willie was born on August 15, 1931 in Luverne, Minnesota, the 11th of 12 children to parents, Lammert and Hendrika Van Laar.
Willie was a resident of the Ripon and Escalon area for most of his life. Willie was drafted into the US Military where he served two years as a cook for the Army. After being discharged, Willie worked in the Ag industry for over 70 years in various roles. He started as a dairyman, hauled hay, worked in irrigation, delivered ag supplies and farmed almonds. He volunteered with his wife, Edna for the Calvinest Cadet Corps for over 35 years. Willie was very involved in his church, Immanuel CRC, where he served as head usher for several years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and leather crafting. He was a humble, quiet man, full of integrity, who loved the Lord.
Willie leaves behind his children, Loren Van Laar (Jackie), Steve Van Laar (Cris), Roy Van Laar (Becky) and Kevin Van Laar (Christy), his grandchildren, Michael Van Laar (Danielle), Michelle Van Laar, Geoffrey Van Laar (Sarah), Aaron Van Laar (Emma), Aleise Van Laar, Paige Van Laar and Hailey Valk (Micah) along with eight great-grandchildren.
Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Van Laar family. A visitation
is scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, November 4th at 10:00 a.m. at Ripon Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Ripon. Remembrances may be made in Willie’s memory to the Cadet Club at Immanuel CRC.
