Robert “Bob” Leonard, 78, of Ripon, passed away on September 20th, 2023, surrounded by family with the help of Hospice of San Joaquin. He was born on October 12, 1944, in Austin, Texas, to Robert and Jane Leonard. 

   He is predeceased by his parents , and son, Marty O’Hara. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Leonard, his children, Michael O’Hara (Sabine) in Germany, Elizabeth De Jong (Craig) in Ripon, Nicole Leonard in Stockton, Robert Leonard in Florida,  grandchildren; David, Joseph, Christopher, Robert, Megan.

   He is survived by his siblings; Jane Samson, Lauren Skelton, Rick Leonard, and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

   Bob graduated from Edison High School in 1962 and attended Rutgers University. In 1963, he traveled to California to begin his lifelong profession in construction and general contracting, that spanned 60 years. A 46-year-long friend of Bill W, Bob manifested his selfless dedication to his

community through his work and involvement with community agencies. He was actively involved with the Stockton Homeless Shelter, Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Club, Gospel Center Rescue Mission, and Rotary. Bob’s greatest gift was his empathy for those who needed a second chance. He provided that and mentorship in every aspect of his life.

   Bob enjoyed; gold mining, kayaking, fishing, hiking, camping, football, music, flying, attending his grandkids sporting and school events, and spending time with his dogs; Rocky, Otto, Sam and Stella.

   Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Leonard family. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Deegan Ripon memorial Chapel; 111 S Palm Ave in Ripon.  Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Stockton Salvation Army.
