Miriam Martell Bradley, 94, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Ripon, California. She was born in Los Angeles to Charles and Frances Martell on December 7, 1926.
She attended Arcadia Elementary and graduated from Monrovia High School in 1944. After high school , she moved to Stockton to attend College of Pacific. She was very active in Epsilon Lambda Sigma sorority where she made many life-long friends. She was elected Vice President of the Student Body and was also elected homecoming queen.
While at COP she met her future husband, Bruce, through mutual friends. They were married on December 18, 1949 and were married for 71 years.
They owned a ranch in French Camp. While Miriam taught school, Bruce farmed. She taught 2 years in Lodi before moving to French Camp Elementary. She taught first, second, and fourth grades from 1951 through 1985. She loved her years at French Camp School. She enjoyed all of her students and the staff became family.
Bruce and Miriam traveled extensively in Europe, Ireland and the US. They also reconnected with Bruce's 754th Army Battalion 40 years after WWII. They traveled the US to attend many reunions enjoying the friendship of the veterans and their families. In 1968 Bruce and Miriam built a family cabin in Twain Harte which the family still enjoys today. Many memories have been made there.
Miriam enjoyed cooking for her family. She would can fruit during the summer to enjoy all year round. She would dehydrate vegetables for winter soups. She was also very crafty. She made pine needle baskets, knit sweaters from wool that she would card, spin and dye different colors. She also sewed and crocheted. She was an avid reader. She loved to share her time with her grandchildren. She always made Christmas cookies for her grandchildren to decorate. After she retired from teaching she volunteered at Bethany Home in Ripon.
Miriam leaves behind Bruce, her loving husband of 71 years. Also, daughters Jennifer Bradley Holtsman and Nancy Bradley Thissen, grandchildren, James (Lindsey) Thissen, William Holtsman, Ryan (Sabrina) Thissen, Heather Holtsman and Carly (Scott) Fisher and three great-grandchildren, Everette Holtsman, Ellery Thissen and Calvin Thissen. Also leaving behind, a dear family friend, DeeDee Agdoma.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bethany Home, 930 W. Main Street, Ripon, CA, 95366. Miriam spent her last 5 years at Bethany Home where the nurses and caregivers were also considered her family.
