Melvin Douglas Taylor
August 23, 1951 - June 2, 2013
Melvin Douglas Taylor died Sunday morning, June 2, 2013, at Doctors Hospital in Manteca, CA. Mel was 61 years old, having been born on August 23, 1951, in Leon, IA.
Mel was preceded in death by his step father and mother, Clair and Olive (McVey) Taylor, and a son, Sonny Charles Taylor who died at birth. He and his parents moved to Manteca in 1957 where Mel grew up attending Manteca and East Union High Schools. The family joined with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1967. Later in life he found the love of Christ and attended the Crossroads Grace Community Church.
Music was the soul of his life. His mother, Olive taught the family music and singing from an early age. Mel played flute in a trio. From the beginning of high school he was a lead vocalist and guitarist in many rock and roll bands. Some may remember him better from the names of the bands such as “Yellow Jackets”, “Jackson Round House”, Mother Lode Express”, “Dennis Crockett Band”, “Le Bach, and “Madru Bros. Band.” He was a great musician and song writer not to mention his great vocal talent. Some of his original music is on https://soundcloud.com/meltaylor.
He lived and worked at times in Stockton, Ca, but Manteca was always his home. He was a foreman and experienced in welding large metal tanks and structures.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Marcella (Fritsche) Suesens Taylor, children, Mel Douglas “TJ” Taylor of Lathrop, Joshua Caleb Taylor(location unknown), and his brother, Vern Taylor of Stockton, step children, Cassie Suesens (John) Sargent, Cheryl Suesens (Dave) Thurmon all of Manteca, Donnie Suesens of San Francisco.
His soul has gone to paradise but his body will be cremated at Park View Cemetery and Funeral Home. Services will be held at Crossroads Grace Community Church, 1505 Moffat Blvd, Manteca, CA, on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 10am in Room 208.
Thank you for your prayers and condolences. Many have loved, but Mel loved to live, and loved to sing.
