Joy Lou Peterson (nee Gist) of Sonora, CA passed into the loving arms of her Lord on August 13th, 2024. She was 87 years old. She was born on August 15th, in Quitique, Texas to Bernard L. Gist and Dorothy D. Gist. 

   She married Donald L. Peterson on February27, 1956, in Ripon, CA, following him to Chicago, IL while he was deployed in the US Army. After his discharge, they returned to Manteca, CA. where they bought a home and raised a family, living there from 1960 to 2016. She was a homemaker for many years, and once her children were old enough, she returned to college taking classes in Accounting before returning to the workplace. She spent many years working for various financial institutions, including Fireman’s Fund Insurance and American Savings and Loan. She retired in 2000 after a successful and fulfilling career. Joy was an avid bowler in various leagues in Manteca, a passion she carried for many years. She also enjoyed painting and ceramics, and was active throughout her life in the Church of Christ, attending congregations in Manteca, Ripon, and Lathrop and Sonora.  She had numerous grandchildren and

great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly, and spent many happy hours with.

   Joy is survived by her loving children, son Matthew Peterson and daughter Diane Feitchmeir, She was preceded in death by her husband Don.

   A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 8th, 2024, at 11a.m. at the Church of Christ, 13397 W. Ripon Rd., Ripon, CA.
