Jose Avina, born on August 15, 1944, passed away on December 25, 2024. A cherished resident of Lathrop for over 48 years, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Elda. Jose is survived by his two children, Adriana Dias (John) and Jose Armando Avina (Jenny), and his grandchildren: Alex, Regina, Lucas, Suzette, Austin, Jace. He also leaves behind his siblings: Luis Avina, Alejandro Avina, Carlos Avina, Rose Hernandez, and Jaime Avina.

Jose graduated from Manteca High School in 1964. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and later retired from the Tracy Defense Depot. After retirement, he dedicated many years of service as an attendant at PL Fry and Son Funeral Home working alongside with grieving families offering comfort. Known for his community spirit, Jose coached both youth and adult soccer, sharing his passion for the sport with others.

 A founding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Jose was deeply involved in his church community. He served in the altar ministry and was the church landscaper for many years, always ready to lend a hand wherever needed. His faith and commitment to God's work were paramount in his life.

Above all, Jose was a doting grandfather, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. His love for them surpassed everything else, and he cherished every moment spent with them.  Jose will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication to family will always be remembered.

A Mass will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe 16200 Cambridge Dr., Lathrop. He will be laid to rest at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Escalon, Ca.  For direct condolences to the family visit www.plfryandson.com
