With heavy hearts we said goodbye to the best husband, dad, and papa ever, Jay (James) Gohl on November 9, 2021 in Manteca, California.
Jay was born on March 20, 1936 in Oakland, California where he grew up and attended school. He was a proud lifelong Teamster retiring in 1993, as a truck driver and Shop Steward at Lucky Stores, as well as Trustee & Business Agent for Local 70. After retiring Jay and Ruthie enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV to visit landmarks and family and friends. Jay’s family was his pride and joy and meant everything to him. He was always there to give caring advice, fix a problem, or be ready with a hug for his family and his many cherished friends. His favorite day of the year was Christmas Eve, because the family always made it a priority to be together. This year will be different without the “glue” that held the family together, but precious memories will be shared, and he will be there in spirit.
Jay is survived by his wife of 47 years Ruthie, his seven kids Connie Vermillion, Karen Roberts, Randy Null (Cheryl), Linda Dickerson, Sandi Null (Mark), Janet Phelps (Dan), and Jim Null (Linda), 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. In heaven he joins his parents, Bill and Helen Gohl, and his beloved Nana Freda Evans. Jay was one of the “good ones” that will be dearly missed, but forever in our hearts, and dancing in Heaven with Nana!
Memorial service will be held on January 12, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Community Church, 815 W. Lathrop Rd., Manteca, 95336. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or Calvary Church.
