Janice Brown obit

Born, March 18, 1940 in Claremore, Oklahoma. Passed, April 13, 2023 at her home in Manteca, California.

Beloved by all who knew her, Jan was a light in the world. She had the most compassionate and kind soul. She laughed easily and often.  Her first thought was of others and made her life's work serving those who did not have a voice and those less fortunate than herself. People were drawn to her kindness and her slight southern drawl put people at ease, they would often share their hardships and troubles with her. She looked at each soul she met with love.

She was a successful businesswoman who managed, then owned Allen's Jewelry for 28 years. She shared many happy memories with the people of the Manteca community when they were buying gifts, beautiful jewelry, Or trusting their most sentimental possessions in her care while they were being repaired. She was civic and politically minded who never missed an opportunity to vote. She was a member of Soroptimist International whose motto is "Inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls" for 38 years. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for 60 years and found great fulfillment in working at St. Paul's food pantry during her years of retirement. She looked forward to seeing the clients every week she loved hearing their personal stories, and helping them access the resources they needed. Jan was a trained Stephen Minister, accompanying others by providing a space for listening to those who were her care receivers.

Jan's compassion and love for children flowed into the lives of the children at church.  You could always find her in the kitchen making lunch for VBS or providing special meals and desserts

when needed.  Her love for her family had no bounds.

She is survived by her children Kirk and Lisa Brown; Lisa and Randy Goodwin. grandchildren; Lynae and Ricardo Ovalle; Ryan and Lauren Brown, Reed and Marly Goodwin.  Great-grandchildren; Andrea, Juan, and Joaquin Ovalle, and Annie Brown. She had many nieces and nephews who knew the sweet presence and love of their Aunt Jan; along with her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, who she loved very much.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband Jim Brown, her parents, Genevieve and Earnest Holmes, her sister Sandra Miller, and nephew Kevin Dye.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to St. Paul's Family Ministry or St. Paul's Food Pantry.

P.L. Fry and Son is honored to serve Jan’s family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at  4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 910 E.
