James Spears, passed away on January 18, 2020 in Manteca, California. He would have turned 93 on January 26.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Alma and Lorraine and his son, Steven and his three siblings, Charles, Helen and Eugene.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Peggy Thompson Spears and his children, Susan (the late Jack) Moreau of Marietta, California, Judy (Lee) Weeden of Manteca, Michael (Mary Jo) Spears of Lacey, Washington, and his step-children Rita (Ron) Nance of Modesto, Jerri (Charles) Rush of Roseville, Robbi (Skip) Peterson of Roseville, Arthur Thompson of Lodi and Daniel Thompson of Manteca. James also leaves behind his beloved niece, Linda, and nephews Bob and Brent. James was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
James was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also the recipient of the World War II Honor Flight. He was an active volunteer at the Manteca Senior Center and San Lorenzo Home Owners Association. James retired from the AC Transit after a long career as a bus driver and was a member of the AC Transit Retirees Club for thirty years. James was a family man with an amazing sense of humor and quick wit. He spoke his mind and was direct with his opinions. It was his opinion that the Mangy Moose in Manteca was the best restaurant around! He and his daughter went to breakfast there every Saturday and he would ride his scooter there three or four times a week to eat.
P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the Spears family. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca, California. A celebration of life service will be held at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in James name to Aseracare or the Manteca Senior Center.
