James "Jimmy" Graves obit

James "Jimmy" Graves, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 19, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on September 21, 1947, Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Lathrop and Manteca, having called these communities home since 1955.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lavonda Graves, and his sister, Betty Haire. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Carol, and their five children: James Graves Jr. Monie Abundiz, Robert Buker, David Buker, and Michele Frey. He cherished his role as a grandfather to eight grandchildren-Ian, Bret, Kendel, Melanie, Tiffany, Rachel, Samantha and Gia-and was a proud great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his one sister, Janie Wade.

Jimmy's zest for life was evident in his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing horseshoes, and he was well-known for hosting the Joseph Road tournaments and many other horseshoe events throughout the year. A natural conversationalist, Jimmy had a gift for humor; he loved telling jokes and sharing laughter, often delighting friends and family with one joke after another. His infectious personality and love for life drew people to him, and he maintained lifelong friendships, even with those from his younger years.  Professionally, Jimmy was a proud member of the labors union, dedicating 30 years to underground piping and paving with various companies, including Granite Construction, from which he eventually retired. Before embarking on his career, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.  Jimmy's legacy of love, laughter, and camaraderie will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

P.L. Fry and Son is honored to be serving the Graves family. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gore Home on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. 20915 S. Olander Rd., Manteca, Ca. for direct condolences to the family.  Jimmy was laid to rest at East Union Cemetery in a private ceremony.
