Henry Charles Long passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022 at the age of 92 (almost 93) surrounded by his loving family in the same farmhouse where his mother gave birth to him.
Henry was born on February 14,1930 in French Camp, California to his parents Charles Christopher and Lena Marolf Long.
He graduated from French Camp Elementary School and Manteca High School. His strong work ethic formed in childhood when he and his younger brother, William “Bill” Long, became the
third generation of an over 100 year farming legacy.
Henry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life Angelina “Angie” Bacchetti at the local livestock auction yard where she worked. They married on
October 30, 1955 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Tracy.
Henry and Angie were blessed with three daughters, Kathleen, Charlene and Laureen. Dedication to agriculture and community service led Henry to serve on the board of numerous organizations; San Joaquin
Farm Bureau Federation (50 yrs), Calla Nile Farm Center Board (30 yrs), Reclamation District 17 (40 yrs), French Camp-McKinley Fire District (40 yrs), Nisei Farmers League, Delta Water Use Association, and the San Joaquin County Economic Development
Association. In 1988, Henry was awarded “Man of the Year” by French Camp
Chamber of Commerce. In 2012, he was inducted into the San Joaquin County Agricultural Hall of Fame, and in 2016 inducted
into The Hall of Fame of Manteca, Lathrop and French Camp. Additionally, Henry was a member of several cultural and historic
organizations including Native Sons of the Golden West Stockton Parlor #7, Dante Club, Liguri Mondo Club, Swiss-Italian Club,
Italian Catholic Association #390, Bersaglieri Men’s Club, San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club, and the Stanislaus Swiss Association.
When he could break away from the farm, Henry enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, traveling, social and family events. He had many memorable trips throughout the United States and abroad to Europe and Australia. He was also very devoted to his three
grandsons and attended their school and sporting events
regularly.
Henry was predeceased by his parents Charles and Lena Long, brother and sister-in-law William “Bill” and Irene Long, mother-in- law and father-in-law Cristoforo and Domenica Bacchetti, and beloved daughters Kathleen and Laureen.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Angelina Long, daughter Charlene Reece (Pete), grandchildren Peter Reece Jr
(Angela), Christopher Reece (Natalie), and Zachary Reece (Mia), great-grandchildren Adeline, Evelyn, Peter III, Bridget, Henry, Avery, Julia, Olivia and Ava, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Nat and
Marie Bacchetti, as well as cherished nieces, nephews, many friends and relatives.
Henry’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his longtime caregiver/angel Vasa, and also acknowledge Hina and
Naomi for their compassionate care. With deep appreciation, they
would also like to recognize Dr. Gurinder Grewal, Dr. Naju Dah and staff for providing extraordinary medical services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, January 6th, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy, CA. Burial will be private.
