Gene A. Peterson, age 86, passed away in his home in Modesto on December 10, 2020. He was born in Newport, Oregon on November 15, 1934. He was the first of three children to Elmer and Selma Peterson.
Gene is survived by his wife Carla Peterson, daughters, Kathi Grajeda (Tom) of San Lorenzo, CA, and Kelly Freitas (Anthony) of Sacramento, CA, stepson, Taylor Phillips of Modesto, CA and stepdaughter Vicki Phillips-Cossairt (Mark) of Lincoln, CA, five grandchildren, Megan, Zach, Tyler, Kristin and Dustin, one great-grandchild Leighton and sisters, Jeanette Sweet and Sharon Hudson. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jeff Peterson. Gene will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Gene attended Manteca High School, where he was a local football star. His football career continued to Modesto Junior College where he was recruited to play for the University of the Pacific. He proudly served his country through the National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. Gene worked as a delivery and truck driver for Meadow Gold Ice Cream, 7up and Anheuser-Busch over his 45-year career and took pride in his work. Gene had a quick wit and enjoyed painting, playing golf, going for walks, watching his favorite football team the San Francisco 49ers, catching Jeopardy every evening, and traveling. His travels took him to many locations in the United States and countries throughout Europe, and he loved to share his travel stories and videos he captured on his travels with his friends and family.
