Gary Hoover, a child of God was called home by his Heavenly Father at age 71,
born in Wisconsin, raised in Manteca, a graduate of Manteca High School. His father, owner of Bob’s Auto Shop, started his love of cars early on. Passion for cars stayed with him throughout his life. Gary worked hard baling hay at 3 cents per bale, to earn money to buy some beautiful cars, like his yellow 1967 Corvette.
Gary was well known as having his favorite band, The Rolling Stones, playing as he drove his cars and trucks.
One of his passions, restoring older cars, garnered Gary recognition on the road, like his fully restored 1961 Falcon that he drove for
over 40 years. Gary loved life and worked in trucking for 45 years, earning a safe driving award for 500,000 miles. He worked for VAZ Trucking in Acampo.
Gary was a simple man, a naturalist, enjoying nature with every opportunity he got. An avid fisherman, camper, hiker, bird watcher, Gary would travel to his favorite nature spots in the mountains every weekend.
An only child, Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ada Hoover. He is survived by
his son, Gary Joshua Hoover,
grandchildren, Niles, Leo,
Felicity, and Grant Hoover,
all of Paris, Illinois, and
step-daughter Malissa Bates
of Oregon. Gary leaves behind many close friends and was truly loved by all.
Gary Hoover, our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, will be truly missed.
A memorial for Gary will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10 a.m., Park View Funeral Home, 3661 East French Camp Road, Manteca.
