Ervin Mendiola Mora was 17 years old when he passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2022 at the place he loved the most, the soccer field. Ervin was born in Stockton, California on May 17, 2005 to Sergio and Amy Mendiola Mora.

Ervin went to Golden West Elementary School where he played basketball and volleyball. Ervin’s true

passion, however has always been soccer. He began playing at three years old and his abilities on the field

stood out. He attended the UC Davis Soccer Camp as a sophomore and made the elite team but was unfortunately too young to participate on that team, even though he played well enough to earn that spot. He also attended the IET Camp in San Diego where he was one of three players selected to play on the “Surf Select” team. As a freshman at East Union High School, he played on his travel team “Surf” and due to Covid restrictions could not represent East Union on their Varsity squad that season. Thankfully, by his sophomore year, those restrictions ended and Ervin was allowed to participate with both Surf and EU’s Boys Varsity team.  Ervin was a well like and respected student at East Union and his curly hair helped him stand out. He traveled to New York with his Avid class and had dreams of going into sports medicine at UC Davis. Ervin was always smiling and was the life of the party. He had an infectious laugh, loved to sing and was the first to one to eat when it was dinnertime. Ervin loved helping others and was just an overall kind soul.

Ervin is reunited in Heaven with his dog, Roxy and leaves behind his grieving parents, Sergio and Amy, his brothers Sergio (Desiree) Mendiola and Kevin (Andrea) Mendiola and his younger sister, Desthiny Mendiola, his niece Mikayella and his nephew Gael, his grandparents Anayansi, Alcides, Alberto, Gloria and Roberto, his aunts and uncles; Tio Gerardo Ibarra, Enedina Aguilar, Miguel Ibarra, Ariel, Axari and Martha Ibarra. Ervin also leaves behind his girlfriend, Ashley Lopez. His dogs Scooby and Princess will miss him as well as his teachers, coaches, friends and teammates.

Ervin’s family would like to thank the soccer community and the East Union High School community. They would also like to thank Cooper Rossi whose bravery helped give Ervin’s family a chance to say goodbye to their beloved son and brother and allowed Ervin to continue blessing others with the gift of

organ donation. While we will all miss Ervin deeply, his legac.y will live on in others.
