Ernestine Phillips "Ernie", beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on January 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 9, 1935, Ernie was a proud resident of Manteca for over 80 years.

   Ernie is survived by preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard of 72 years. She is survived by her loving children; Diane Phillips, Michael Phillips (Carolyn) and Rick (Teresa) Phillips, and her cherished grandchildren, Tara, Michael Jr., Michelle, Christina, and Richard. She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren, Alexis, Larissa, Evan, Braden, Adalynn, Kensley, Hunter, and Jameson.. Family was the cornerstone of her life, and she took immense pride in raising her children and caring for her husband, creating a home filled with warmth and laughter.

   Ernie was not only a wonderful homemaker but also a hardworking farmer who tended to the land, driving tractors and providing daily lunches for the workers during almond season. Her resourcefulness was legendary; with just a screwdriver, WD-40, and tape, there was no challenge she couldn't tackle.

In her younger years, Ernie and her daughter Diane owned and operated Mutt Hutt, a well-known hotdog stand in Manteca, where she built lasting friendships with many customers. A talented artist, Ernie showcased her creativity through stained glass and paintings, some of which were even displayed in local city halls for all to admire. She was also an enthusiastic bowler, participating in the sport for over 50 years. Additionally, she played softball for nearly her entire life, serving as a pitcher until she was 70. Living in the countryside, she took in many abandoned cats and dogs, rescuing and caring for them until they passed away. Ernestine never turned away an animal in need.

   Ernie was a vibrant member of her community, known for her infectious spirit and love for life. She cherished her Bunko group and enjoyed cooking elaborate meals for every holiday, ensuring her home was always filled with love. A self-proclaimed professional gambler, she made many friends at Jackson Rancheria and local casinos, always bringing joy wherever she went. Just a week before her passing, she enjoyed a memorable outing to the casino with her daughter, embodying her zest hoping to cash out some big winnings.  Remembered as the "Queen of Hearts" and a social butterfly, Ernie leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and connection that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to any animal rescue.

   P.L. Fry and Son is honored to be serving the Phillips family. A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. held at P.L. Fry and Son Chapel, 290 N.
