Elda Avina, born on September 5, 1946, in Mexico, passed away on July 25, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family.

A 48 year resident of Lathrop, Elda is survived by her children; Adriana Dias (John) and J. Armando Avina (Jenny), and a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: John Alexander, Regina, Lucas, Suzette, Austin, and Jace. She is survived by her siblings, Raul Ontiveros, Erasmo Ontiveros, Martha Bustos, and Beatrice Hermosillo. Additionally, Elda was married to Jose for 54 years.

Elda was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to her children and cherished her role as a caring friend. While she spent most of her time tending to her family, she also worked seasonally at the cannery, where she formed lasting friendships.  Since the inception (1964) Elda was actively involved in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Lathrop, she served on the holiday decorating committee, sang in the Catholic choir and supported the church in all of their endeavors for over 40 years.

Elda took pleasure in cooking from scratch, maintaining a tidy home, and creating knitted scarves and blankets for her loved ones. She enjoyed conversations, especially long chats with family over the phone. Elda always had a welcoming home, she looked forward to Mother’s Day every year where she planned a perfect meal and entertainment for her co-workers.  In her younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding and traveling. Above all, Elda’s grandchildren held the most significant place in her heart, she loved them unconditionally.  Her vibrant presence and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed.
