Chris Peters, 88 of Manteca, California entered into rest on June 4, 2014.
Chris was born in San Francisco on August 30, 1925 to William and Eleanor Peters. He moved, with his family, to Manteca at the age of three. Chris’ father, William, built several theatres in the small towns in the Manteca area. The El Rey Theatre was first and opened with great fanfare on April 15, 1937. It was a landmark building in Manteca until it was destroyed by fire on August 5, 1975.
Chris attended the University of Pacific in Stockton, California before enlisting into the United States Army on December 28, 1943. Chris returned to Manteca May 9, 1946 after World War II and married Janice Marie Webb in 1949. Chris and his brother George assumed ownership of the El Rey Theatre and operated the business until the building was destroyed.
Chris received his real estate license and worked with his high school friend, Joe Jacobs, at Jacobs Realty until retiring in 2011 when he moved to Texas to live with his children. Chris passed away in Lockhart, Texas on June 4, 2014.
Chris is survived by his children, Dr. Thomas Garret Peters, in Los Gatos, CA, Dr. David Orin Peters, in Lockhart, TX and Christine Marie King, in Kingwood, TX with husband, George King, III. Grandchildren: Garret Peters and Devin Peters of San Francisco, Thomas Peters and wife Celeste of Katy, TX, Anne Peters and Andrew Peters of Lockhart, TX and Kathryn King of Kingwood, TX and great-grandson, Harrison Peters of Katy, TX.
Chris Peters loved life and easily made friends. His engaging personality and desire to make people laugh was enjoyed by all. He is dearly loved and will be missed.
