A group of local Christian musicians will get the chance they’ve been waiting for this weekend.
We Set Fire – a Christian metal band that includes two Manteca natives – will head down to San Diego this weekend to perform at the Spirit West Coast Festival in Del Mar, one of the two biggest Christian music festivals on the West Coast.
And when it comes to Christian rock, they’ll be in good company.
Included in the lineup to perform at the festival are Grammy-nominated Christian band Jars of Clay as well as three-time Grammy winner Steven Curtis Chapman – who also has more than 30 Gospel Music Association awards to his credit in his nearly 25-year long performing career.
The Grammy-nominated group Newsboys will also perform, as well as Kutless, Barlowgirl, and Matthew West.
We Set Fire is comprised of singer Mike Higuera, guitarist and vocalist Josh Stoner, bassist and Manteca native John Kautzer, drummer Josh Mara, and 2007 East Union graduate and guitarist Randy Greer.
Indie Vision Music – an online music blog that evaluates unsigned and up-and-coming bands – said that the group’s CD Deliverance “is full of heavy breakdowns and guitar riffs that are sure to please every metal fan. We Set Fire makes good use of the double bass pedal that sends much appreciated hard-hitting pulses through your speakers. Overall this is a solid debut EP from a young band that has tons of potential.”
