A water main to the Chevron station and car wash at the corner of South Main Street and Mission Ridge Drive was severed about 1:30 Saturday afternoon when a truck jumped the curbing, sideswiped a light pole and drove through a hedge on the edge of the property.
The truck left the scene before any witnesses could see what it looked like, however the vehicle left its front license plate at the scene for authorities to use in identification.
Firefighters from Station 242 responded to the scene to attempt to shut off the source of water under the sidewalk. Portions of the truck bed were also found on the station property.
A Manteca officer investigating the incident included the license plate number in his report that will enable investigators to make contact with the driver. After the firefighters left the Public Works Department was expected to repair the broken water main to enable the business to function again by reestablishing waster service.
