Ken Wesela knows how to put smiles on the faces of people.
A member of the Senior Center, he did so by displaying his dance moves Friday at the Manteca Parks and Recreation Department’s teen, adult, and senior prom.
“I love to dance,” said Wesela, who also attended the event of a year ago co-sponsored by the Manteca Youth Advisory Commission and the Manteca Senior Advisory Committee. “I’m an old man and I like to boogie.”
According to youth advisory President Ashley Polanco, this “senior” prom is unique in allowing two generations to come together.
“I’ve found that no matter the age we can all have fun,” she said.
Folks from Wesela’s generation had no trouble demonstrating dances of their era to today’s teenagers.
“Everyone here dances to the music (of the two generations),” said Brandy Kendrick, recreation coordinator for the local parks and recreation department.
Panda Express helped supply the food, with the two advisory groups settling on an Asian theme.
The Senior Center, in fact, was decorated and converted to the “Gold Fortune” for the prom.
Those attending also enjoyed appetizers, beverages, a souvenir photo and plenty of entertainment.
Missing were some seniors who were en route to Hawaii.
“Last year, we had about 100 in attendance,” said Kendrick, who was expecting close to 80 this time around due in part to the conflicting schedule with the summer excursion.
Polanco indicated that this year’s event was dominated by the younger generation.
“I think it’s great that we can all come together for this function,” she said.
