A free bike safety rodeo for kids is being staged Saturday, May 20, by the Manteca Police Department and Manteca Parks & Rec Recreation Department.
The free event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Giles Memorial Park next to the Boys & Girls Club, 545 Alameda St.
The event includes bicycle inspection and repair, obstacle course, the chance to create your own license plate, a free meal featuring hot dogs with chips and a drink, bike safety and maintenance presentation, and a demonstration by the Manteca Police canine unit. Bring your bike and helmet. If you don’t own a bike or helmet, there will be bikes and helmets available to borrow at the event.
Summer day camp
for kids starts May 30
Manteca Parks & Recreation’s summer day camp starts May 30.
The camp is for ages 5 to 12 and runs Monday through Friday through Aug. 4. There is no program on July 4.
It takes place week days from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lincoln School, 165 S. Powers Ave.
The fee is $140 per five day week and $112 for the week of July 3 as there are only four days. There is a $10 discount off weekly rates for additional children in the same family.
A morning and afternoon snack will be provided. Children will need to bring their own sack lunches.
Each week has a separate activity theme centered on outdoor play, arts and crafts, group games and special events.
There is also the option to include swim lessons that will take place Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of a weekly session for 30 minutes at nearby Lincoln Pool for $23 per child. Public swim will be available to all campers Tuesdays and Thursdays at no additional cost.
Swim lesson preregistration

Registration for Manteca Parks & Recreation’s popular swim lessons that tend to fill up fast is now underway.
If you register by June you may do so for any one session per student. Starting June 5, registration will only be allowed for the next session of swim lessons.
You have the option of group or private swim lessons. Group lessons are offered on eight different skill levels with five programs designed for those 6 and older as well as three younger age specific programs for those nine months to three years, three to five years, and and four to six years.
There are five sessions. Four sessions cover two week periods, Monday through Thursday for eight lessons at 35 minutes each. The cost is $45 for Manteca residents and $55 for non-residents. Lessons take place at the Lincoln Park and Manteca High swimming pools. The upcoming sessions are June 5-15, June 19-29, July 3-13, and July 17-27. A one-week session July 31-Aug. 3 has prorated fees of $23 for city residents and $33 for non-city residents. Registration for upcoming sessions closes at 5 p.m. the prior Thursday. There are no lessons on July 4.
Private swim lessons for 9 months through adults are available at the Manteca High and Lincoln Park pools for $105 for residents and $115 for non-residents. It consists of four Monday through Thursday 40-minute lessons or four consecutive Saturdays. Lessons are offered June 5 through July 27. There are sessions available on Saturday for private lessons. One session is June 3, 10, 17, and 24. The second session is July 1, 8, 15, and 22.
August evening lessons that start during the hours of 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. are Aug. 8-11., Aug. 15-18, and Aug. 22-25. Fees for the August evening lessons are $23 for residents and $33 for non-residents.
Summer Splash
Water Safety Day
The Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with the Manteca Fire Department is offering a free Summer Splash Water Safety Day on Saturday, June 3, from noon to 3 p.m. at Lincoln Pool. Lifeguards and firefighters will give presentations and hands-on demonstrations throughout the day showing children how to be safe in and around water. Light refreshments will be served. The free event will be followed with free open swim until 6 p.m.
Junior lifeguard

Two junior lifeguard clinics for ages 10 through 14 are planned at the Lincoln Pool The first session is Saturday-Sunday, June17-18, and the other Saturday-Sunday July 15-16. Both sessions are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The cost of a session is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents.
Introduction to scuba classes for those 10 and older are scheduled for Sundays on June 11 and July 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Manteca High pool. The cost is $10 or $20 for non-residents.
Public & lap swimming

The Lincoln Pool is open Memorial Day Weekend May 27-29 from noon to 6 p.m. each day. It is open for summer public swimming June 5 through Aug. 6. The hours are 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. August weekend hours are noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 12-13 and Aug. 19-20. Lincoln Pool is located on Powers Avenue across from the fire station south of East Yosemite Avenue and behind Lincoln School.
Children 4 and under are free while youth 14 to 17 are $2, adults 18 to 61 are $3 and seniors 62 and up are $2. Family passes good for up to four people can be purchased for the season for $60 at the Manteca Parks & Recreation office, 252 Magnolia Ave.
Lap swimming for all ages takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Manteca High from June 6 through Aug. 3. No pre-registration is required. You simply pay the $2 per session fee at the entrance to Manteca High swimming pool. A minimum of five swimmers are needed for the session to take place.
Water aerobics for men and women 17 and older take place Tuesdays and Thursdays June 13-July 20 from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. at the Lincoln pool. The $5 per session fee is payable at the door.
Lincoln Pool can also be rented for a minimum of two hours with lifeguards included for summer parties. For information on pool rental call 456.8600.
