• MAN’S BODY FOUND IN SONOMA COUNTY LANDFILL: PETALUMA (AP) — Sonoma County authorities say a body has been found in a Petaluma landfill.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the dead person was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Sonoma County Central Disposal Site.

The body was determined to be of a 39-year-old man.

The sheriff’s office says a preliminary investigation has found no indication of foul play. An autopsy is planned for Friday.

Employees believe the body came in on a transfer truck from the Healdsburg area.

Investigators say they will not release the man’s name until his family is notified.

• PAUL MCCARTNEY TO PLAY AT CANDLESTICK CONCERT: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Rock legend Paul McCartney is set to return to Candlestick Park to offer a swan song to the San Francisco 49ers’ former stadium.

McCartney’s website posted a statement Thursday confirming that the former Beatle will perform on Aug. 14 at what is being billed as the last concert at Candlestick.

His appearance became contentious last month when McCartney’s worldwide concert promoter, Barrie Marshall, mentioned he had visited the 49ers’ new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara as part of negotiations about a possible opening concert there in August.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports city officials felt slighted, since San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee had personally invited McCartney to close the “Stick.” The Beatles played their final paid concert there in 1966.

San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department Director Phil Ginsberg says the city’s persistence helped seal the deal.

• 2 ARRESTED IN FATAL SHOOTING OF OAKLAND PET SITTER: OAKLAND (AP) — Authorities say two men are in custody for the shooting death of a pet sitter who used her cellphone to record them during an apparent burglary in Oakland last year.

Alameda County prosecutors on Thursday announced that 22-year-old Stephon Lee of Richmond and 21-year-old Mario Floyd of Oakland face murder charges with special circumstances for the slaying of Judy Salamon just a few blocks from her home on July 24.

Police say the men allegedly argued with the 66-year-old Salamon over her cellphone before Lee shot her. Salamon who was driving, lost control of her car, which rolled down a hill before crashing into a parked car.

Neighbors say Salamon was an avid animal lover known as the “Pet Nanny,” because of her affinity for taking care of neighborhood pets.

• FATHER OF OAKLAND TEEN SHOT BY OFFICER SUES CITY: OAKLAND (AP) — The father of a 16-year-old Oakland boy who was shot in the face by an officer who mistook him for a robbery suspect is suing the city.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports a federal civil rights lawsuit was filed Wednesday on behalf of Frenswa Raynor.

Court papers say Raynor suffered a graze wound to his jaw last April when he was shot by Officer Bryan Clifford.

The shooting occurred after police responded to a robbery and were given descriptions of three male suspects.

Attorney John Burris says the group turned out to be Raynor and two of his friends.

Officers intercepted the trio, and Clifford, sensing a threat, shot Frenswa in the jaw, authorities said. Police later confirmed that Frenswa and his friends were not responsible for the robbery.

• ELECTED OFFICIAL TESTIFIES IN PEEPING TOM TRIAL: SANTA ROSA (AP) — A Northern California politician accused of being a peeping Tom has testified in court that he visited a neighbor in the middle of the night wearing only his socks and underwear but that he never peeked into her windows.

Taking the witness stand Thursday, 33-year-old Santa Rosa Supervisor Efren Carrillo blamed his ego and drunkenness for the bizarre July 13 visit to the woman’s apartment and admitted he hoped to have drinks and sex with her.

Carrillo insisted that he never attempted to leer through the woman’s window after stripping down to his underwear and going to her apartment.

Prosecutors challenged his account.

Carrillo was arrested after the woman called 911. A jury must decide if he is guilty of misdemeanor peeking.

Before the incident, Carrillo had been considered a rising star in California’s Democratic Party.
