OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — An audit shows Oakland is keeping cash from overpaid parking tickets despite a state law requiring refunds.
Motorists mistakenly paid parking tickets twice, adding to a $316,000 windfall last year alone.
The city auditor says Oakland's parking enforcement officers issued $22.7 million in tickets last year.
The $316,000 in overpayments came from inattentive motorists who paid twice.
The annual windfall was discovered as part of a larger audit of the city's parking ticket management.
The auditor says Oakland bureaucrats have no knowledge of the requirement to reimburse overpayments.

Feinstein's daughter retiring as SF judge
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Sen. Dianne Feinstein's daughter is retiring after 12 years as a California judge.
Katherine Feinstein tells the San Francisco Chronicle that she's open to running for public office.
But the 55-year-old San Francisco Superior Court presiding judge downplayed the possibility of running for her mother's Senate seat if the state's senior senator decides not to run in 2018.
The judge says her mother shows no signs of slowing down.
Her last day on the bench will be Dec. 31.
