• GANG-RELATED MURDER IN STOCKTON: STOCKTON — Stockton Police are investigating what appears to be a gang-related murder that occurred Saturday night.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 4300 block of Manchester Avenue at 8:34 p.m. Saturday.
Officers located a 25-year-old male victim that had been shot multiple times in a parking lot of an apartment complex, said Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he died.
• SHOOTING SUSPECT FREE AFTER KILLING NEIGHBOR: STOCKTON — A 53-year-old Stockton man is free after shooting and killing a neighbor.
Although they had only been there about a week, the residents of the home at 440 Flora Street in Stockton, and the man who was shot and killed in specific, were well known to the people in that neighborhood.
It started with a man standing out in front of a house throwing his hands up into the air screaming vulgarities.
Police say a 53-year-old man shot him in the stomach just before 11 a.m. Saturday, telling officer he’d done it because he feared for his life.
Neighbors say that the home where the deceased man lived was well known to be a type of halfway house for recovering addicts and the mentally ill.
Homes that cater to such people are cropping up in numerous of neighborhoods. Landlords, particularly in economically depressed areas, who can’t find renters for their homes are sometimes attracted to the regularity and security of rent collected from tenants who get government disability checks.
• MAN SHOT WHILE WALKING IN STOCKTON: STOCKTON — A man was shot and injured while walking down a downtown Stockton street Friday night.
The 37-year-old victim said he was near Lafayette and San Joaquin streets when he walked by three teenage boys, Stockton police said.
After he passed the teens, the victim heard three gunshots and then felt pain in his back.
The man then ran to the McDonald’s at Center and Washington streets where he called police. The man was taken to a nearby hospital for two non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
Police said officers were unable to find a crime scene. There was no description of the shooting suspects available.
