EXPLOSIVE DEVICE TRIGGERS MODESTO HIGH LOCKDOWN: MODESTO -  Modesto High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday, following a report of a shooting and the discovery of a possible explosive device near the campus.

According to the Modesto Police Department, officers responded to a possible shooting in the area of 5th Street and I Street around 11:45 a.m.

While investigating, a car, possibly involved in the shooting, was found to contain a suspicious device in it, said police.

The Stanislaus County bomb squad was called to inspect the device.

According to the bomb squad, the device was determined to be a legal ground burst simulator, used in events such as Civil War re-enactments. There was no gunfire and the bomb squad did not find any weapons in the car.

There were three people in the car. One was taken into custody on suspicion of a hit and run on two cars at 5th and I streets.

The lockdown at Modesto High was lifted around 12:56 p.m.
