Suspicious case in park triggers Ripon bomb scare

A city maintenance worker discovered a suspicious looking suitcase shortly before 2 p.m. Monday near the baseball diamond at the Ripon Community Center in the 300 block of Fourth Street and summoned police.A questionable device was seen in what was described as a strange position inside the suitcase. First Sergeant Steve Merchant said “out of an abundance of caution” the area was cordoned off and assistance was sought from the Manteca Police Department Bomb Squad. Bomb squad technical officers responded to the scene and the suitcase was examined with the contents being removed, determining the device was not an explosive.

Flyers make pitch for Ripon dog park funds

The Friends of the Dog Park are in the process of requesting financial support to help make their dreams come true. One way of doing that is via flyers. Pet owners in the City of Ripon can expect to see a donation form upon receiving their renewal letters for dog licensing.
