Last year, the City of Ripon submitted two proposed projects for the San Joaquin One Voice trip to Washington, D.C.
Elected leaders will give it another try on the Ripon-Manteca Class 1 Regional Bikeway Connection under the One Voice Regional Transportation Project, and the pipeline to connect Ripon’s water system to the South San Joaquin Irrigation District South County Water Supply Project as the Local Priority Project.
Both One Voice 2015 projects will be discussed during the 7 p.m. open session at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting.
San Joaquin One Voice is a delegation of policymakers, government officials and business leaders from San Joaquin County.
They seek out leaders in the current Administration and Congress to discuss specific policy issues and projects of importance to their region.
The City of Ripon projects must first be reviewed by the San Joaquin Council of Governments staff and the SJCOG executive committee.
Projects are required to be submitted by Jan. 30. SJCOG, which seeks projects that are regional significant while providing community-wide benefits, will review the requests and make its selection in late February.
This year’s One Voice trip is scheduled for April 19 through 24.
In recent years, most of the One Projects approved were from Stockton, according to Leo Zuber.
The Ripon mayor said a year ago that the cost of a local representation should be looked into as a future reference.
“I think it could enhance our chances – it’s easy to say ‘no’ to an empty chair,” Zuber said.
Among the One Voice projects to get approval in recent years included the Stockton-French Camp interchange ($3.3 million), North Stockton Interstate 5 improvements ($4 million), and the I-5 / French Camp Road interchange ($980,000).
