Ripon elects Uecker, Restuccia

The Ripon City Council will have two familiar faces.

Dean Uecker is the incumbent and was the top vote-getter at Tuesday’s general election. Mike Restuccia looks to be coming back after a four-year break from the elected post.

With all 10 precincts reporting, Uecker gathered 41.3 percent or 1,720 of the votes, according to the numbers posted by San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office, while Restuccia tallied 37.1 percent or 1,549.

Shane Smith, who is a coach and educator at Modesto Christian High, stepped down from the race a few months ago but too late to withdraw his name from the ballot. At last count, he managed 852 votes.

Uecker has served on the council for the past eight years and even took his turn as mayor about a year ago.

“My time (serving on the City Council) has been an extension of my day to day life in Ripon,” he recently said.

Uecker supports the farming community and credits public safety (namely, police, firefighters and EMTs) for preserving Ripon’s quality of life.

Restuccia, who is also a former mayor, has a background in auditing and banking.

He believes it’s important for the City to avoid taking anything from the reserve funds. At same time, he hopes that there’s enough funding to restore those positions cut during the recent recession.
