The crew of W.C. Maloney, Inc. has been paving the way for construction to begin soon at Weston Elementary School.

The Stockton-based professional wrecking and site-clearing contractors began demolition of the Ripon Unified campus about a month ago.

This process was one of the many moving parts of the voter-approved Measure G project.

“It’s been quite a process,” said Superintendent Bill Draa on Thursday.

One of the moving parts is the series of meetings involving RUSD officials – included is the team of Program Management Integration, general contractor C.T. Brayton & Sons of Oakdale, and architect Timothy Huff & Associate of Modesto – with the various agencies for this lease-leaseback project budgeted at $10.4 million.

The other is the shuffling of students throughout the district.

“This week, we’ve moved two of the portables (from Weston) to Ripon Elementary and one to Ripon High,” Draa said.

He’s yet to receive any complaints on the temporary accommodations of Weston students. Principal Lisa Fereria has her office set up at Colony Oak Elementary School but is spending time with youngsters at the other sites, according to Draa.

The Weston kindergarten and first-grade students are being bused to Park View Elementary School while second- and third- grade students are at Ripona Elementary.

Fourth through sixth graders are at Colony Oak.

The junior high students – seventh and eighth graders – attend Ripon Elementary School.

“The Weston eighth-grade graduation will take place at Park View,” said Draa. “Now is the time to make those plans.”

Plans also call for Weston students to return to their new campus, which is scheduled to re-open by July 2015.

They’ll be greeted to permanent classrooms, office and support staff accommodations inside a renovated multi-purpose building, and a brand new multi-purpose facility equipped with a gymnasium / cafeteria.
