MJC offers Hawaiian Music Night

MODESTO — Modesto Junior College Athletics and the Associated Students of Modesto Junior College (ASMJC) present a Hawaiian Concert Night on Friday, May 22, at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto. 

The concert features renowned Hawaiian singer and songwriter John Cruz.

 Cruz has distinguished himself as one of the most talented artists that has ever come from Hawaii.  He was named the Best Singer Songwriter by Hawaii Magazine in 2008.  His album “One of These Days” debuted at number one in Hawaii in 2007, number two on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, and number six on the Billboard World Chart.

 The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts gave the CD its highest honor in 2008 by awarding Cruz the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Contemporary Album of the Year.  Honolulu Magazine named it one of the “Top 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century” in 2012.

 Concert tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased on East Campus at the MJC Athletics Office, Physical Education Building – 107 on Coldwell Avenue, 575.-6270, and in the Public Information Office, Morris Memorial Building – 201 on College Avenue, 575.6866, or by calling the MJC Box Office at 575.6776 and leaving a message.  Tickets may also be purchased at the Peer Recovery Art Project, 1220 J Street, Modesto.  Tickets will be available at the door for $12.  Proceeds will support the MJC’s 21 sports programs.  MJC students can attend the concert for free by displaying their student ID card.
