AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman was drunk when she sped away from police in an SUV that later crashed and flipped with five children inside, ejecting a 2-year-old boy, authorities said Thursday.
Lashawna Taylor, 33, refused to pull over when a police officer tried to stop her SUV late Wednesday, Akron police Lt. Rick Edwards said. She fled at a high rate of speed, running stop signs and red lights, but officers stopped the chase after seeing she had children with her.
The Buick Rendezvous eventually went out of control, striking a snowbank and two wooden poles before hitting a fence post and overturning. The 2-year-old boy suffered a broken leg, Edwards said.
