NORWALK (AP) — Authorities say a 55-year-old man was set on fire as he slept outside a donut shop in southern Los Angeles County.
Capt. Patrick Maxwell of the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station tells the Long Beach Press-Telegram that the man remains in serious condition Monday in a hospital burn unit, five days after the attack.
On Wednesday at about 12:45 a.m., someone walking by the shop that sits across from local school district office heard screams, saw the man in flames and called the fire department.
Maxwell says the man was doused with an unknown liquid before the fire was set. There are no reports of any arrests.
He says the man has slept in the spot for years and is familiar in the community, but has refused offers of help.
