The Manteca Bulletin was honored for its design and creativity at the 2012 CNPA Better Newspapers Contest banquet over the weekend.
The Bulletin collected two awards, including a first-place prize in the category of Sports Special Section.
The football preview section – “Two of a Kind,” published Aug. 23 – was produced by Sports Editor Jonamar Jacinto and reporter Jagada Chambers, and designed by Ryan Balbuena and Amy Aberer.
The Bulletin also received a second-place for Best Page Layout and Design for the same edition.
There are four circulation sizes for daily papers. The Bulletin competes in the 15,000 and under category.
Managing Editor James Burns won Best Sports Story for a story he penned while the Regional Sports Content Editor of The Modesto Bee (circulation 35,001-150,000).
Burns wrote a piece published on Sept. 9 chronicling the efforts of Riverbank High football coach Jimmy Oliver, who was trying to create a mentorship program for a team without many father figures.
