Manteca adds Poolates, scuba camp, lap swim in addition to swim lessons

Want a workout without working up a sweat?

Manteca Parks and Recreation may have the answer for you.

As part of its upgraded summer recreation offerings for adults and youth, the city is offering poolates for both men and women this summer.

Classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting June 8 and running through Aug. 7 from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Lincoln Park Pool on Powers Avenue.

The cost is $5 per day. There needs to be five participants to run the classes.

Recreation supervisor John Boore said the poolates class is in response to requests to offer more options.

Participants will learn a range of motion, strengthening, stretching and endurance exercise. The pool is heated. Participants must bring a noodle to participate.

Extreme scuba
camp added

Manteca Recreation is also adding an extreme scuba camp for ages 10 through 17.
It takes place at the Manteca High swimming pool. All equipment during the camp is provided by Aquatic Discount Scuba while all instructors are Professional Association Divers. It will cover equipment, safety and the “joy” of scuba and skin diving.

The class is July 14 through 17 on a Tuesday through Friday schedule from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost of the class is $150 for Manteca residents and $160 for non-residents.

If it is anything like the scuba diving intro class it will fill up weeks in advance of the first day.
Three one day session for those 8 and older to introduce them to scuba diving will take place on Saturdays June 6, July 25, and Aug. 8 for $10 per

Manteca resident or $20 for non-residents.

Professionals from Aquatic Discount Scuba will provide the two-hour clinic each day from 9 to 11 a.m. to discover the sensation of breathing under water. Participants need a swimsuit, towel and sunscreen.

Lap swimming

Manteca Rec has also added lap swimming at the Lincoln Park Pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 2 through Aug. 6 from 6 to 7:30 a.m.
The fee is $2 per day for an early morning workout.

At least five swimmers are needed to offer the class.

Saturday sessions

Manteca Parks and Recreation is getting ready to offer its standard week-day group sessions plus add Saturday lessons as well as private lessons.
The one-on-one classes are ideal for people who have children who need more work on specific moves as well as for adults, and special needs kids.

Private swim lessons will take place at the Lincoln Park or Manteca High pool. All lessons are based on instructor and pool availability. The fee is $20 per resident per lesson and last 40 minutes each. Request the date you would like a week prior and If Manteca Rec is unable to fulfill the request you will be notified.

Manteca offers eight skill level and age classes.
There are two Saturday sessions that will run June 6 through June 27 and July 11 through Aug. 11. They are 35 minutes each week and take place at the Lincoln Pool at 9:40 a.m., 10:20 a.m., 11 a.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:10 p.m. The cost is $20 per session for residents and $30 for non-residents.

The week day lessons are in five sessions: June 8-18, June 22-July 2, July 6-16 and July 20-30 over two weeks Monday through Friday for 35 minutes apiece and Aug. 3-7 in a one week session Monday through Friday for 55 minutes each.
The lessons take place at the Manteca High and Lincoln Park pools are 9 a.m., 9:40 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:20 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:40 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5:10 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 5:40 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:10 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $37 per session for Manteca residents and $47 per session for non-residents.
