The man killed on Saturday in a hit-and-run on Northgate Drive was identified on Wednesday as a 31-year-old father of two young children that owned a popular dessert business.

Daniel Yanez, a graduate of Manteca High School, was identified by his family and the authorities on Wednesday as the victim in the currently unsolved hit-and-run that occurred at 7:19 p.m. on Northgate Drive near the Tidewater Bikeway.

And now the Manteca Police Department is looking for information not only about the incident that led to Yanez’ death, but also the other party involved in a minor traffic incident that Yanez was involved with just prior to being struck.

According to the agency, witnesses to the incident said that the vehicle that struck Yanez was a pickup truck, but no other information is known at this time. The collision was investigated by the department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.

A follow-up investigation determined that Yanez was involved in a previous minor collision just prior to the incident near the intersection of Union Road and Northgate Drive that involved Yanez’ motorcycle and a currently unidentified van. While the police believe that the two incidents are unrelated, they are currently seeking information that will allow them to interview the driver of the van as well.

The investigation is currently being handled by the Manteca Police Department’s traffic unit, and officers are currently seeking anyone with information about the minor collision involving a motorcycle and van at the intersection of Northgate Drive and Union Road or the fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a possible pickup truck on Northgate Drive near the Tidewater Bikeway.
