Wes Stouffer’s name again graces Ripon High’s stadium

The full name of “Wes Stouffer Field” was finally restored on the press box at the Ripon High football stadium.

Andy Strickland noted last Thursday that the full field name can now be seen on the press box at the Ripon High football stadium.

The new signage reads: Wes Stouffer Field.

“It adds to the look of the field,” said Strickland, who is RUSD’s Director of Maintenance & Operation.

Weslie ‘Wes’ Stouffer was a tireless educator and community volunteer. He not only donated land for one of the city parks – named after his wife, Mavis Stouffer – but also helped build the very stadium which is named in his honor.

He passed away in 1999.

Stouffer was principal at RHS from 1928 to 1955. He also worked for the San Joaquin County Office of Education for 14 years and served as a volunteer firefighter.

In addition, Stouffer helped to establish the Ripon’s public library and the water district.

In recent years, the stadium underwent a much-needed remodeling – the Ripon Community Athletic Foundation led by the likes of Vince and Stephanie Hobbs and other hard-working volunteers – consisting of all-weather track, bleachers, playing field, scoreboard and press box.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since the press box went in – but we’re happy to finally have ‘Wes Stouffer Field’ back on it. It looks amazing and it can be read from the street and beyond,” said Ripon High Super Fan via social media.
