Two young women that were reported missing when they failed to return home after a wedding at Spring Creek Country Club in Ripon on Sunday evening were found deceased in a vehicle submerged in the Stanislaus River on Tuesday.

Xylona Gama, 22, of Stockton, and Alyssa Ros, 23, of Long Beach, were attending the wedding of Alyssa’s uncle at the private golf course on Sunday and were last seen leaving in an Infinity sedan between 9 and 10 p.m.

A Spring Creek employee found the vehicle on Tuesday in the Stanislaus River near the southeastern part of the golf course.  First responders that worked to extricate the vehicle discovered the remains of the two young women inside.

The family of Ros – who graduated from Weston Ranch High School in 2016 – said they learned of their daughter’s death from a tweet that had been shared by a family member supposedly posted by a Spring Creek employee.  The tweet has since been deleted and the account that it came from has been made private.

The family said Alyssa was planning on coming to their house with other members of the family but failed to show up, and phone calls to her cell phone immediately started going to voicemail.  Her father posted just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday asking the public for any information that they may have about Alyssa’s whereabouts, he learned shortly thereafter that she had passed away.

According to authorities, the vehicle went off the road and down a steep embankment before overturning in the Stanislaus River.

The Ripon Police Department – which, along with the Stockton Police Department, had an active missing persons investigation underway at the time of the discovery – and made the announcement of the death of the two young women on Wednesday, stating an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

The cause of the accident, and whether they believe foul play was involved in any way, was not specified.
