The fourth annual Duck Race is right around the corner.

The fundraising event of the Ripon Rotary Club will once again feature 1,000 toy ducks in one of the waterways of the South San Joaquin Irrigation District.

The Duck Race is planned for Monday, June 10, beginning at 1 p.m. with the Ripon Consolidated Fire District conducting the big drop of toy ducks – each will be numbered from one to 1,000.

As for the actual location? That’s yet to be determined, said Rotary President John Mangelos on Wednesday.

Proceeds from the Duck Race will to go towards trade school scholarships – available will be four scholarships at $1,000 each – for the select graduating seniors at Ripon High and / or Ripon Christian High.

Mangelos recalled that one of the recent past recipients used the scholarship to go to firefighter school.

Cost is $5 per duck or “four ducks for 20 bucks.”

The person holding the first-place duck will have a choice at one of the five prizes – a Benelli Italian shotgun from Barnwood Arms; $250 gift card from American Social Restaurant; one case of wine from McManis Family Vineyards; a gift basket from Bank of Stockton, or a gift basket from Freedom Fire Protection.

The second- through fifth- place finishers, in that order, will follow with their choices of the remaining prizes.

Tickets are now available and can be purchased from any Ripon Rotary member or at the Bank of Stockton (234 W. Main St.) and Barnwood Arms (120 E. Main St.) during business hours.
