They’ve achieved the highest academic honors at Lathrop High.
Amanpreet Singh Atwal and Riley Stromgren were announced as co-valedictorians at last month’s Respect the Shield Rally, an assembly celebrating academic success.
Sanah Sunner was named salutatorian.
Atwal and Stromgren both had 4.29 GPAs while Sunner finished had a 4.26 GPA.
All three have big plans for the future.
Stromgren is looking at taking a unique path by going to UC Davis in the fall. He’s leaning towards majoring in Psychology and possibly Philosophy, coupled with joining the school’s Reserve Officers Training Corps or ROTC.
His dream is to become an Air Force Judge Advocate Officer – JAG is a highly trained attorney that handle a wide variety of legal issues, including international law, operations law, environmental law, and military and civilian issues.
Stromgren, who attended nearby Mossdale Elementary School, is the son of Nick and Myra Stromgren. He took part in Speech & Debate and Academic Decathlon at LHS. Outside of that, Riley Stromgren has been involved in competitive powerlifting for the past two years.
The message he’s looking to convey when addressing his fellow classmates during the commencement ceremony: “Everyday is an opportunity to be better.”
Atwal, for now, is looking at attending UC Santa Barbara – he’s still looking to hear from several other UCs before making a final decision for college.
He’s the son of Jaswinder and Kulwinder Atwal.
Amanpreet Atwal is planning to study Mechanical Engineering.
At Lathrop High, he played soccer and was a member of California Scholastic Federation.
His interest outside of school include producing music and teaching Punjabi dance.
Atwal attended Joseph Widmer Jr. Elementary School prior to his high school experience amid a worldwide pandemic.
“[COVID-19] made it unique for us. We had challenges like never before and had to freely learn (our way through it all),” he said.
Sunner shared those same experiences and is now looking to start a new chapter in her life.
She will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall with plans of majoring in Political Science.
Sanah Sunner, who is the daughter of Ranjit Singh and Kiran Gill, played golf and basketball for the Spartans.
She came to LHS via River Islands STEAM Academy.
As for her favorite high school memory?
“I always enjoyed going to the football games,” she said.
