A  new $10,000 four-seat golf cart is being raffled to raise operating funds for HOPE Family Shelters.

Tickets are $100 apiece.

The drawing will be conducted once all 170 tickets are sold.

Thirty tickets for the Golf Cart Pros cart have already been sold.

Tickets can be purchased from board members or going to the non-profit’s website at hopefamilyshelters.org

The goal is to have the tickets all sold by the time the next Night of HOPE benefit dinner is staged Nov. 15.

 Last year, 89 families were housed in two if HOPE Ministries’ existing three shelters for three months at a time. The third shelter is transitional housing allowing for longer stays.

That represents 227 individuals of which 60 percent or 136 were children.

Robust case management includes working with clients to help them to make better financial decisions, working on behavioral factors that contributed to them ending up being homeless, along with mentoring for life skills make a major difference.

Many often have jobs when they become homeless but due to money managing skills or other issues, end up  not being able to cover all costs including rent.

Overall, HOPE Ministries has helped more than 5,700 people since they first opened their doors.

The original; shelter on Yosemite Avenue was built in 1919  as a hospital.

It was converted two years later to apartments.

Almost a decade ago it was  renovated and modernized by HOPE Ministries.

HOPE Ministries also operates a shelter for single moms and children in a former rest home on South Union Road. That is in addition to a six-unit transitional housing complex near Doctors Hospital where families can stay for up to two years and pay 30 percent of their income in rent
