Work is currently underway on the tennis courts at the Ripon Community Center.

Once completed, the City of Ripon facility will accommodate four regulation tennis courts and eight pickleball courts.

Not too long ago, the Ripon City Council awarded the contract to Consolidated Engineering, Inc. to handle the work.

The old courts had, according to a recent report, “exceeded their useful life” and was in need of replacing.

The $424,697 project was made possible by a Proposition 68 grant for $188,106 coupled with the Recreation Capital Fund.

The scope of the work by Consolidated Engineering Inc. included the removing and replacing of asphalt, installing new permanent tennis pots and nets for the four courts, adding a double-wide gate for maintenance access, and replacing the high-pressure sodium lights with LED light fixtures.

The City of Ripon also purchased, separately, a pickleball net system equipped with wheels that can easily be moved, depending on use of the courts.
