Sunshine Donut Company owner keeps Ripon shop in her family

Sunshine Donut Co. in Ripon will continue to operate as a family business only without its longtime owner.

Sunshine Donut Company is still around.

Absent will be the familiar face of Thida Yang.

For 17 years, she’s been owner and operator of the Ripon business located at 1201 W. Main St.

She announced two Sundays ago as her last day.

"I refuse to say goodbye and two little words like 'Thank You' just aren't enough," Yang said on social media.

Not too long ago, she floated the idea of putting the shop up for sale but had a change of heart despite the financial challenges brought about from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I couldn't bear the  thought to leaving and no longer being a part of the lives that I've come to adore and love," Yang said back then.

Sunshine Donut will continue without her but will remain in the family — her cousin, aunt and even her son Trent are staying on.

"The donuts will stay the same and so will most of the faces," Yang said.
