When loss prevention staff from Kohl’s contacted the Manteca Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft unit on Monday, they thought they were putting a stop to somebody that was stealing from the store.

They didn’t know that same person was wanted from Stanislaus County for attempted murder.

On Monday, Manteca Police officers helped identity 45-year-old Modesto resident Tommy Lee Taylor Jr. after they were contacted by loss prevention staff from Kohl’s informing them, they believed that Taylor was involved in organized retail theft.

When police contacted Taylor and 41-year-old Stephanie Marie Douglas, Taylor allegedly tried to give a fake name before detectives were able to properly identify him.

In addition to the warrant for attempted murder out of Stanislaus County, Taylor was also wanted for felony charges of reckless driving while evading police and felony transportation of narcotics. He also reportedly had warrants for his arrest out of Mendocino County.

Both Taylor and Douglas were arrested for identity theft, retail theft, possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia and were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
