Speed lumps now in place along park in southwest Manteca

Speed lumps were installed on Tara Lane on the west side of Terra Ranch Park in southwest Manteca.

At least two drivers Friday afternoon — one in a Tesla and another in a Honda Accord — got the message.

Both, apparently not seeing warning signs of speed lumps, bottomed out on the newly added traffic calming devices.

Both slowed down significantly when they crossed the second set of speed lumps on Terra Lane along the west side of Terra Ranch Park in southwest Manteca.

The Manteca City Council last month directed staff to work with a nearby home developer to put the speed lumps in place.

Street work for new subdivisions required a long-term detour for Woodward Avenue.

It was being ignored by those living in and near Oakwood Shores as they opted to take a short cut through the Terra Ranch neighborhood instead.

Residents of the impacted neighborhood complained about people speeding past the park.

Given asphalt was being used, it wasn’t until this week that the temperatures were warm enough to have the work done.

The developed paid for the work as well as the signs.

Mayor Gary Singh said he was happy that the developers demonstrated they are good neighbors.

The mayor said speed lumps are still being pursued on Daniels Street between Winters Drive and Fishback Road.

The lumps for Daniels Street — which are rubber as opposed to being asphalt — have been ordered and the city is waiting for the firm to process the order.

Singh also said staff is also moving forward with exploring traffic calming solutions for Mission Ridge Drive.
