SJ COUNTY JAIL
Inmate charged with passing meth to fellow jail prisoners
kite suspect

The interception of a jail “kite” – typically a note that is passed between inmates in a cell – by a correctional officer at the San Joaquin County Jail revealed that the incarcerated individuals were passing more than just messages.

According to the San Joaquin County Sherriff’s Office, officers intercepted a kite that included a small plastic baggie containing methamphetamine and upon further investigation to determine where the bag originated executed a surprise search on the inmate that they believe had sent it out.

Rudolph Deslie, who is housed at the jail core facility, was found to be in possession of an additional 10.7 grams of methamphetamine on top of what officers had already found attached to the kite. He will now face two additional charges – possession of a controlled substance in a prison or jail and possession of a controlled substance for sale. Both new charges are felonies.

Delsie was being held on a host of charges that included evading a police officer with wanton disregard, vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property, and was being held without bail. He is due to appear in court on the new charges in Downtown Stockton on Wednesday at 9 p.m.

According to the San Joaquin County Sherriff’s Office, it is unknown at this time how the methamphetamine made its way into the secure jail facility since every inmate undergoes a strip search and a body scan prior to being incarcerated.

Several high-profile arrests have been made over the last year after people were caught trying to smuggle contraband ranging from prescription drugs to methamphetamine into the jail facility through inmate visitation. Just recently the sheriff’s office arrested a woman and brought charges against her incarcerated partner after she tried to discard drugs inside of the visitation room so that they could be picked up at a later time and brought inside of the jail facility.
