Three Manteca girls  presented “thank you challenge coins” to 40 Manteca veterans.

Kimzey siblings Abbigail, 11, and 9 year old twins Madeline and Sophie personally gave the coins along with handwritten cards to veterans during a dinner Tuesday at Manteca Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6311 located on Moffat Boulevard.

Shannon Kimzey, who is their mother, started homeschooling the three girls this year.

Part of their learning process is doing as much hands on learning as possible.

“I wanted to do a military service project so our children can really learn, see, and respect the sacrifices our military members have made for us and our country,” Shannon Kimzey said.
The three  girls spent days making body sugar scrubs and then sold them.

They raised just over $200, which allowed them to purchase 40 tokens of appreciation for military members (current and veterans).

The girls also made cards to accompany the coins.

“Our plan is to raise money so we can continue to gift our courageous military members,” she added. “We will also be volunteering whenever we can. There aren’t enough people who really respect what others have given up for us, and it is my goal to instill a solid understanding and foundation for our children.:

“We want to extend our thanks to every service member, current and former, and to those who have sacrificed their lives for us.”

Shannon Kimzey is a former law enforcement officer. Her husband, Brian Kimzey, is currently serving in law enforcement.
