Seats on Manteca, Ripon school districts as well as Ripon City Council will appear on Nov. 5 ballot

Several local seats are up for grabs come the November elections.

The Manteca Unified school board, for starters, have three expiring terms – namely, that of Eric Duncan, Melanie Greene, and Marisella Guerro.

Duncan, who represents Trustee Area 1 consisting of the Weston Ranch community, has served on the local school board since 2016. He represents the part of MUSD consisting of the Weston Ranch community in south Stockton.

Greene and Guerro were both elected to the school board for the first time in 2020.

Greene represents Trustee Area 3, consisting of New Haven, Joshua Cowell, and Woodward elementary schools coupled with Calla (alternative) High.

According to the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office, former board member Bob Wallace recently filed as a candidate to represent Trustee Area 7 – schools include Mossdale, Lathrop Elementary, and beTECH Academies – which is currently occupied by Guerro.

The three incumbents have yet to refile, SJC Registrar of Voters office said on Thursday.

At Ripon Unified, board President Caroline Hutto and provisional Trustee Harpal Chandar have already filed for the November election.

Chandar, who represents Trustee Area 5, was appointed in June to complete the term previously held by Christina Orlando, who served 12 years on the local school board.

Hutto, representing Trustee Area 4, has served on RUSD board since 2016. During that time, she’s been the board president on three separate occasions.

Ripon City Council

Mayor Leo Zuber along with Daniel de Graaf and Gary Barton will seek re-election.

City Clerk Lisa Roos said Thursday that all three recently took out papers, in turn, qualifying for the upcoming election.
