Plans to construct a four-story hotel at North Jack Tone Road near Highway 99 were granted a one-year extension.

The Ripon Planning Commission approved the extension request Monday on the Avid / Candlewood Suites Project per the request from the developer (Manteca Hospitality, Inc.).

According to Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart, the applicant had reported difficulty finding builders for the project, compounded with higher interest rates.

The use permit for the four-story, 54,338-square-foot dual branch building – Candlewood Suites, once completed, would have one area for the short stay and the other for extended stays – was approved by local planners in October 2022.

“Staff reviewed all the original conditions of the approval when the extension request was received and determined that no change or additional conditions were necessary,” Zuidervaart said.

Plans call for the hotel to be located next to the Fly J truck stop, adjacent to the Denny’s Restaurant on Jack Tone Road.

The 107-room Avid Candlewood Suites will also feature a lobby / food area and fitness room on the first floor, and the guest laundry area on the second floor.

The hotel will have both suites and standards rooms along with an outdoor swimming pool and gazebo area.

The exterior of the building will be mostly that of stucco featuring different colors and finishes of 13 accents.
