Students of the Manteca Unified School District are likely familiar with the Anytimers Super Snack Pack.
In particular, the cheese pizza kit consisting of real mozzarella along with a whole grain crust and marinara sauce.
That’s one of several items offered up at the free Seamless Sumer Lunch program that started this week at the various park locations in Manteca, Lathrop and Weston Ranch.
The program is free for those ages 2 to 18 – the meals must be eaten on site.
“These are the same foods served at our elementary schools,” said Remedia Craighead on MUSD Nutrition Services.
She and Sidra Dariq are one of several teams working at this year’s Seamless Summer Lunch program. Included are 35 sites serving lunch daily, Mondays through Fridays, from now through July 19 (no services on June 19 and July 4-5).
On Thursday, they set up shop at a shady section of Doxey Park located near McParland Elementary School, offering up grab-and-go items such as the pizza kit, fresh fruits, vegetables, milk (a choice of chocolate or regular), and a fruit cup.
From Doxey Park, Craighead and Dariq’s daily lunch route also includes Chadwick Park (Manteca), Valverde Park (Lathrop), and Libby Lane (Lathrop).
During the regular school year, Craighead works in the kitchen at Manteca High while Dariq, who is looking to work fulltime, is a substitute at Veritas Elementary School. Both are in their first year with the Seamless Summer Lunch program.
