Traffic in River Islands will be following a different pattern starting on Wednesday morning that will continue until at least the spring.
According to the City of Lathrop, River Islands Parkway will be closed to all westbound traffic at Enneking Way and Roll Tide Way at the location of River Islands High School starting on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
The closure is expected to last approximately 7 months and will include a temporary closure of the rounded section of Paradise Road from Posey Street to the north to the intersection with Stewart Road to the South until the construction is completed.
Traffic looking to access that area will be able to access at Paradise Road from the south before making a right on Winton Ave. and a left onto Roll Tide Way – which becomes Enneking Drive on the opposite side of River Islands Parkway. The detour will connect with the closed spur of Paradise Road at Waldera Drive, and residents will be able to turn right to access homes in that area.
River Islands High School, which is currently under construction, is expected to greet students on campus next year for the start of 2024-25 school year. The school, which will adopt the Navy blue, teal, and white color scheme used by Coastal Carolina University, will use the mascot “Riptide” and will include a 4,000-seat outdoor stadium that is being built by the River Islands development for community use.
The stadium will be located next to Islanders Field near the town center.
Construction currently underway on the campus is for the first phase of development – at a price tag of around $150 million.
Students at the high school are currently attending classes at the neighboring Epic Academy classes that opened last school year with only freshmen. Next year those first-year students will comprise the first junior class that the school has ever had.
While River Islands has long had multiple options for elementary school aged children, students that were high school age were attending classes at Merrill West High School in nearby Tracy until the campus started selecting students.
